The opening of the headquarters of DPG Media was celebrated with a visit of King Willem-Alexander and a spectacular video show. The new office is the place where almost 2000 media makers and 25 media brands can come together under one roof. As one of the world's largest wood-hybrid office buildings, the building has everything you would expect in a modern office for a large media house, including recording studios, two radio stations, test labs and an event location. In the design, Team V's architects emphasized sustainability and a healthy working environment, resulting in the achievement of BREEAM excellent certification. The spaces facilitate and promote both creative collaboration and focus work. The natural light, greenery and abundant use of wood promote the well-being of the media makers.

A home for a media house

Team V succeeded in creating a home for all of DPG Media's media brands. The basic palette is soft and calm, allowing people and media titles to bring in their own colors. Architecture and interior form one overall concept that radiates unity both inside and outside. There is a strong commitment to a healthy working environment, with plenty of daylight and green spaces. Acoustics have been well thought out, with a fine balance of an open but quiet work floor.

Realization of the design

The interplay of robust and soft and the interaction between inside and outside have been translated into the interior. The flowing lines of the facades are reflected in the choices in the fixed and loose furniture, think of the seating elements, planters and lighting of Viabizzuno. Furthermore, the calm color palette is reflected in the more than 1,200 Presto Duo workstations of Vepa, the more than 1,200 Be Brave office chairs from Be by Beta, and acoustic wall panels from De Vorm.

The planters from Vepa are placed as buffers between workstations and informal spaces for visual separation with a positive effect on people's well-being.

Recycled and refurbished

All desks coming from the former DPG Media offices were reused. Together with MG Facility (our assembly partner), we went through all the workstations to inventory which parts were reusable. There are over 800 bases refurbished and moved with them. The workstations were also fitted with new desktops, all damages were removed and - where necessary - the cable ducts were replaced. Thus, all desks look like new.

The media titles were also allowed to give their own existing furniture a second life in their new informal meeting spaces. Further, sustainable materials were suggested (such as wool) when reupholstering chairs and partitions of workstations. Also, the felt on the walls was made from recycled PET bottles.
