Xplore Agora Amsterdam, a high school with an innovative educational concept, stands for learning your way. A place where curiosity is sparked, talent is discovered and students are given the freedom to develop. That vision called for an interior that inspires, invites and at the same time withstands intensive daily use. We translated Hoff Interior Design's interior vision into a furniture plan that does more than just be functional. This is not a standard high school, and you see, feel and experience that in every space.

A school without classrooms

This project is not just about selecting furniture. It is about creating an environment consistent with an innovative way of learning. In this school you will not find traditional classrooms, but flexible learning spaces and coaching areas that stimulate self-direction and creativity. The use of natural wood, robust concrete and fresh, cheerful colors create the energy and tranquility in which children can develop. Sustainable and circular choices were also made, in line with the school's vision, with attention to furniture and materials that can withstand rough handling.

One of the most important spaces within this project is the grand café - the heart of the school. Here everything revolves around atmosphere, meeting and relaxation. Working with different furniture arrangements, materials and seating types creates a dynamic environment that feels like a modern hospitality space. Warm, accessible and inspiring.

Realization of the design

Within the furniture plan, a conscious choice was made for variation and flexibility. Multiple options and combinations ensure that spaces move with the use and development of the school. The flexible character of the Inclass Entropy modular sofa in the grand café is a good example of this. Since the inside of the building is a quiet base with lots of wood and concrete, we chose colorful and ‘lumber-proof’ furniture; the red New School bar stools from MDD and the Tip Ton Re chairs by Vitra in 3 colors. The hanging colorful objects The Opkikker complete the cheerful grand café. A lot of custom furniture was also used at Xplore, such as the benches with planters and bar tables.

Sustainability as a starting point

The result is a future-proof learning environment where sustainability was not a choice but the starting point. This was carefully considered in the furniture plan and products from European sustainable brands such as. Vitra, Softline, Muuto, HAY, MDD and Inclass. We also chose future-proof materials and upholstery so that the furniture will last a long time.
