The Philips office in Amsterdam: From brutalist icon to high-tech and sustainable office building.

The building on Prinses Irenestraat was one of the first office buildings in this area. A closed, brutalist volume of concrete, designed in an era when monumentality was central. Today, there is a transformed building: open, light, and forward-looking.

Philips traded the Breitner Tower for this renovated building. V8 Architects was responsible for the architectural transformation and the exterior, giving the building a new, contemporary identity. Fokkema & Partners Architecten translated this vision into the interior together with Philips. The result is a stylish, high-tech office that fully meets current sustainability and usability requirements.

InteriorWorks is proud to have been a partner in this project.

The desire

The redevelopment of the building required more than just the delivery of new furniture. Philips was looking for a partner who could think along at scale, with an eye for circularity and reuse. A party that knew how to preserve existing qualities while adding new workspaces that align with modern ways of working and sustainable use.

design

The idea

The interior concept by Fokkema & Partners called for a design that supports flexibility, comfort, and long-term use. InteriorWorks translated this into a clear workspace setup and meeting environments where functionality and aesthetics come together.

In addition to supplying new workstations and conference tables, existing furniture was carefully refurbished and redeployed. This preserved value and demonstrably reduced the ecological impact.
